Bio

Pianist, composer and arranger, born in Palermo (Italy) in 1975. He graduated in composition at the “A.Scontrino” Conservatory of Trapani and in piano at the “V.Bellini” Conservatory of Palermo with full marks.

He has been given many awards in a plenty of piano contests such as the “Prokofiev award” within the International Piano Competition Ibla Grand Prize 1992 and the first price in Lamezia Terme (A.M.A. Calabria ’92).

During his academic music studies he developed interest in other forms of musical expression, like jazz and experimental. In ’94, with the drummer G.Urso, he formed “Vinum de Cupa” quartet, with whom he played in numerous contexts in Italy and abroad, including the National Radio of Budapest (Bartók Radio) and the jazz Szàmbèk Open 03 (Hungary).

He has been playing as sideman in different music contest and jazz festivals around the world with: Dave Liebman, Dusko Goycovich, Eliot Zigmund, Bill MoringFrancesco Cafiso, Brad Wheeler, Joy Garrison, Pietro Tonolo, Ralph Alessi, Roberto Gatto, Stefano D’anna, Gianni Basso, Gegè Telesforo, Maurizio Giammarco, Seamus Blake, Jazec Kochan, Robert Bonisolo, Michele Hendricks, Michael Rosen, Marco Tamburini, Marco Panascia, Gigi Cifarelli, Pietro Leveratto, Pietro Ciancaglini, Fabrizio Bosso, Rosario Giuliani, Jean-loup Longnon, Gianluca Petrella, Francesco Cusa, Cristoph Monniot, Enzo Randisi, Gianni Gebbia, Giuseppe Milici, Pavel Smetacek and many others.

He has been playing as pianist of the “Orchestra Jazz Siciliana” with musicians like Michael Torke, Michael Mantler, Toots Thielemans, Diane Shuure, Arturo Sandoval, Bill Russo, Miky Howard, Bob Mintzer and Jack Walrath

In 2006, with the music project “Hector Mann Music Crew” (with Francesco Guaiana and Marko Bonarius)  he wins the first price at V international silent film festival with live music “Strade del cinema 2006”.

In 2007 and 2008 he played at the Italian institute of Culture of New York and for the Paris fashion week; with the project called Accabbanna he has played in Umbria jazz 2004, Montreal jazz festival 2006, Siena jazz 2005-2006-2007, Festival Internacional jazz Barcellona 2006, Baku Jazz Festival 2006 and many others.

In 2011 he performed with the band of Ivan Segreto at the Blue Note in Milan, the following year he plays on tour in Poland with Jòraku Four and with the quartet of Jazek Kochan, along with Robert Bonisolo and Piotr Lemanczyk.

In 2013 he released his album entitled “UFO”, distributed by the label “Improvvisatore Involontario”.

From 2013 he played in duo and in quintet with Francesco Cafiso in theaters and jazz festivals around the world and recently has also worked for the orchestral arrangements of two new production by the saxophonist, one of which has involved the prestigious London Symphony. For the same projects he recorded in quartet in New York with Cafiso, the bassist Linda Oh and drummer Marcus Gilmore.

In 2018 he released his album entitled “Pixel”, distributed by the label “E-Flat”, with Pietro Ciancaglini on bass and Adam Pache on drums.

In 2020 Francesco Cafiso’s album entitled Irene Of Boston is released, with the collaboration of the London Symphony Orchestra, Marcus Gilmore, Eric Wheeler and produced by Francesco Cafiso, who sees him again involved as an arranger and pianist.

He is currently dedicated to concerts, composition, arranging for various kind of instrumental and teaches at conservatory of music of Palermo.
